We were thrilled by the incredible response to National Community Walk Day, held on Sunday 8th June, to raise awareness about the growing number of industrial solar farms and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development applications in our area.
This family and dog friendly countryside walk was part of a national initiative, with over 29 local and national campaign groups taking part and an estimated 2,350 people walking across the UK in support of protecting rural landscapes from inappropriate energy infrastructure.
Here in East & Botolph Claydon, we were proud to welcome the support of several local councillors, our action group patron Rt Hon Greg Smith MP, and coverage from BBC South, all of which helped make the day a memorable and impactful success.
The walk concluded at East and Botolph Claydon Village Hall, where the WI hosted a tea, coffee, and cake stall – raising £332 in support of our campaign. A huge thank you to everyone who helped with leaflet drops, baking, guiding walkers, and spreading the word in the lead-up to the event.
On behalf of the Claydon Solar Action Group, we extend heartfelt thanks to every community member who joined us. Together, we made our voices heard in support of responsible renewable energy development that protects our countryside.
