Projects connected to East Claydon Substation
At the end of April 2025, another large-scale energy infrastructure proposal was submitted to Buckinghamshire Council, Statkraft - the company behind the proposed East Claydon Greener Grid Park, have submitted a planning application to Buckinghamshire Council for a second 500MW BESS installation 650m north-east of East Claydon village and north of the National Grid Substation. This indicates a substantial intensification of energy infrastructure in the area.
This battery development, part of the growing trend toward utility-scale energy storage, would occupy approximately 108 acres of agricultural land, raising concerns about the continued loss of productive farmland in the area. This is also in addition to Statera BESS who are in partnership with Stakraft. This follows the already significant 2,100 acres allocated for the nearby Rosefield Solar Farm.
National Grid are also preparing a planning application for a new, larger substation to be built adjacent to the current site. While full details of this plan have yet to be released, the map below highlights the growing cumulative impact of multiple large-scale energy projects now converging in the East Claydon, Winslow and Granborough area.
Make your voice heard
There are many and varied opinions on the Statkraft BESS application. The significant amount of documentation available in the application, together with facts and opinions from various sources make the summary of key points a difficult task.
To enable responses to Buckinghamshire Council on the planning application, a summary of findings has been produced and presented by the Parish Council working Group.
It has already been said that there will be consequences during the two phases of the project, the construction phase and the operational phase.
We understand that many people lead busy lives, so we've prepared a couple of draft objection letters below, to help residents share their views with the Council. You're welcome to use them as they are, adapt them to suit your needs, or write your own comments. Every voice counts - feel free to add any personal thoughts or concerns you may have.

If you use this method please make sure you add the Planning Application number as 25/01297/APP so that your comments can be registered accordingly.
We also ask if you could send us a copy info@claydonssolaractiongroup.co.uk so we can keep a record of people objecting, especially now that the Bucks Portal no longer displays non-consultee responses.
